在生活中，有关数字的表达，有时候不是 1、 2、 3、 4……就能说清的，很多情况下，我们要用到”第一“、”第二“、”第三“……，在英语中，这类数词被叫做”序数词“。常见的有以下几种情景：

1.询问日期：

Q： What's the date today? 今天几号

A： It's March (the) sixth. 今天 3月 6日。

2.描述名次

She was the third in the exam. 她那次考试第三名。

3.描述先后次序

He came in first. 他第一个进来。

除了描述日期以外，其他用到序数词的情况都明显包含了”次序“的含义，大家不假思索就知道什么情况下要用到序数词了。

怎么把基数词变成序数词

1.从 1-19，一般情况下(除特殊情况以外)只要在基数词后面加上 - th就可以了，读作 -[θ]，如下所示：

特殊拼写:

1 one→ first 2 two→ second 3 three→ third 5 five→ fifth

8 eight→ eighth 9 nine→ ninth 12 twelve→ twelfth

规则拼写：

2.从 20开始， 10的整数倍：将词尾 y变成 ie，再加 - th构成

例： 30 thirty→ thirtieth 50 fifty→ fiftieth

70 seventy→ seventieth 90 ninety→ ninetieth

3. hundred， thousand， million的序数词均在其后加 - th构成，即 hundredth， thousandth， millionth

序数词念法：把最后一个基数词变成序数词

例： 156 one hundred and fity-sixth

1278 one thousand two hundred and seventy-eighth

200 two hundredth
