H: I’m considering getting a MSc Degree in Modern Chinese Studies at the University of Oxford. The MSc is offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, which is one of the thirteen constituent parts of the Social Sciences Division, Oxford University.

K: Why do you choose this major in the University of Oxford?

K: Do you mean the Oxford’s Institute for Chinese Studies?

H: No! What I referred to is the University of Oxford China Centre, which was founded in 2008. Though newly established, the centre has brought together academics from across the whole university to ensure full interdisciplinary interaction, and support a wide range of research projects.

K: From across the whole university?

H: Yeah! Academics of the centre are from across four different divisions, including Humanities; Social Sciences; Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences; Medical Sciences. As you know, there are merely four divisions at Oxford.

H: Er... the most influential two projects are the Contemporary China Studies Programme and the British Inter-university China Centre. Especially the Contemporary China Studies Programme, which has already been a focal point of a concerted effort in the University. H： It is a three-term, nine-month course. It is designed so to ensure the graduate students obtain high quality research training, with an emphasis on grasping research methods.
