体坛英语新闻: Sharks end long wait for win in Xinjiang

BEIJING, Dec. 04 (Xinhuanet) - - The Shanghai Sharks won their second straight game in the CBA yesterday with their star captain Liu Wei again leading from the front to run away with a 99-95 away win at the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. Shanghai's American import D. J. White scored a game-high 34 points with 13 rebounds while Liu contributed with 24 points and nine assists. There was more reasons for celebrations as it was the first time in six years that Shanghai had beaten Xinjiang in an away game - the Sharks ' last victory coming in the 2006-07 season. The Sharks raced to an early lead right from the first quarter and despite the Tigers making a strong comeback in the third quarter the Sharks were able to hold their nerve and maintain the advantage after stealing a turnover at the end. Xinjiang started its Chinese Basketball Association season 3-1 while the Sharks went into the game 1-3. Shanghai's another American star Gilbert Arenas did not go with the team to Xinjiang. The former NBA All-Star guard, who had pulled a thigh muscle in the very first game, is expected to return this week. Elsewhere in the CBA, the defending champion Beijing Ducks, led by Stephon Marbury, tasted their first defeat this year, losing 87-96 to Tianjin Gold Lion. Marbury notched 32 points. Also, Shandong Gold is enjoying their best start, beating Liaoning Flying Jaguar 117-101, to make it 5-0.
